This tree is located in the northerly section of the Hawthorn group, roughly midway between the footpath and canal path. It is most recognisable by its abundant and formidable thorns.

Originally thought to be Crataegus crus-galli but Crataegus calpodendron better matches the leaves. Thorns were measured and were approximately 8cm long.

The following table gives the approximate physical measurements of examined haws together with the number of pips found within them.

8.7 11.0 3
8.8 10.0 2
8.3 11.2 2
