Police Station

When Cathays Park was being planned in the early 1900s it was envisaged that "police offices" would be built on the plot where the City of Cardiff Police Headquarters was eventually built.[1]

This building was designed by architect John Dryburgh and built by Turner & Sons. The foundation stone was laid by Mr George Thomas, Minister of State for Wales, in the presence of the Chairman and members of the Watch Committee on Friday 29th July 1966. The building was opened on August 22nd 1968 by Lord Stonham, Minister of State at the Home Office and at the time cost £731,000. It was designed to accommodate up to 300 people comprising the following police sections: motor patrol, traffic wardens, CID, regional crime headquarters and headquarters staff.[2]
